A new year is around the corner. Time for good intentions and best practices to take centre-stage. You could be forgiven for neglecting your boiler and home heating over the last few months, maybe even…eh hem…the last few years, but now’s the time for action.
With the colder weather going nowhere for the time being, don’t get caught out by lack of action on proper boiler maintenance. A boiler breakdown is the last thing you want or need, especially after the expenditure of Christmas; take it from us! Make today the day for setting up some basic home care resolutions to keep you safe and warm in the year ahead.
This really MUST be done at least annually. Regular servicing is essential for your own safety, your boiler’s efficiency, and your boiler warranty compliance. If you book through us, a qualified heating engineer will inspect your boiler, clean its components, and identify any potential issues.
If you notice cold spots on your radiators or if they are not heating up evenly, it may be due to trapped air. Bleeding the radiators releases the air, allowing hot water to circulate more effectively. You can find a quick guide in our FAQs.
Aim to maintain the correct boiler pressure according to the manufacturer’s guidelines. Low pressure can lead to reduced efficiency, while high pressure can cause damage. Regularly check and adjust the pressure as needed. You can find the details on how to check in your boiler’s user manual, or check our FAQs.
Not to be overly dramatic, but this literally could save your life. Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless gas that can be produced by faulty heating systems and can be fatal when inhaled. Install a carbon monoxide detector near the boiler to make sure that any leaks are picked up and your family is warned before it’s too late. Check the detector regularly to ensure it’s functioning correctly.
This is a basic but very sensible move to keep your home running smoothly. Draughts make your home colder, meaning your boiler has to work harder to reach your ideal room temperature. This can at once stress the boiler and waste unnecessary energy.
If your heating system experiences issues like cold spots on radiators or noisy operation, a power flush may be a good idea to remove sludge and debris that builds up in the system over time. If you fancy treating your boiler to a power flush to see in the New Year, give our team a call.
Ok, we must declare an interest here. We do boiler cover, and we do it well. But we really do think that a small investment each month will give you peace of mind and remove any headaches if things go wrong. Give us a call or find out about our packages here.
Giving your boiler a little TLC this January is a tiny gesture that you won’t regret. Like any appliance, boilers work better when they’re well cared for; they live longer and cost you less. So don’t delay what you could do today!
